The Marks of the Life of Faith

When the believer lives by faith:

1. He has no agenda

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him Who sent Me and to finish His work.” John 4:34

“For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will but to do the will of Him Who sent Me.” John 6:38

Point: Having an agenda involves the will. The believer who has no agenda is fully content with Christ’s will. Because Christ is the head of the Church, and is the all-powerful God, it only makes sense that he would seek and be content with His will. To be where the Lord wants, doing what He wants is his greatest desireand provides his greatest joy.

2. He doesn’t step into tomorrow

“Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’” James 4:15

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” Matthew 6:34

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Point: Because he has no agenda, the man of faith seeks only God’s plan for his life. He does not plan for the future, even a day ahead, except as the Lord directs Him. Once a plan is made it is always subject to change by God at any time. He is as thrilled with a no answer to a plan as he is with a yes. One of his greatest joys is to hear from the Lord.

3. He lives as if Christ is enough

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

“For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power.” Colossians 2:9-10 KJV

Point: The one who walks by faith daily has found that Jesus Christ is the preeminent One. He created all things and holds all things together, is the head of the Church, and loves him. He can trust Him to be all he needs at all times. He is content with Him, and doesn’t need anything or anyone to make his life fruitful or complete. Jesus Christ is quite enough.

"He has no agenda."
